Highlights of the 2018 MEDITECH Physician & CIO Forum

by Rich Robinson, Director of Marketing & Account Management

One of the highlights of every fall is the opportunity to join 300 fellow MEDITECH physicians, chief information officers, and partners at MEDITECH’s beautiful Foxborough campus to hear about best practices that customers have implemented and of course new product innovations to the MEDITECH Expanse EHR system.

This year was no exception. MEDITECH lined up a phenomenal keynote speaker in Dr. Ted James, Medical Director from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. His insights into change management, personal motivation, leadership and enhancing the patient experience were an inspiration. As nearly half of this year’s attendees were physicians, his message resonated especially well.

MEDITECH Executive Vice President Hoda Sayed-Friel, outlined a number of exciting new features including integrated voice commands for physician EHR tasks. MEDITECH also hosted break-out sessions for the HEART Pathway Toolkit, Diabetes Management Toolkit, Opioid Management Toolkit and their new Population Health solution which will pilot in Q2 of 2019.

In addition to MEDITECH’s presentations, many customers presented on best practices and wins using the MEDITECH EHR platform. Engage attended most of those sessions, which were all outstanding. Among the highlights were Dr. John Tollerson from Kalispell Regional Healthcare who presented their use of patient registries and Kayla Godfrey from Summit Pacific Medical Center who showed how they are leveraging BCA for advanced dashboards and reports for key hospital operations metrics.

Many attendees commented on the rousing presentation from Taylor Davis, Vice President, Analysis and Strategy at KLAS. He shared insights from over 20,000 physician surveys. Of particular note was the discussion about the impact of quality training for physicians on their subsequent satisfaction and adoption of the EHR.

Lastly, there was much discussion around RESTful API’s and the ability of organizations to access and leverage their EHR data in new and meaningful ways. As a leader in advanced interoperability strategies and app development, Engage is poised well to help organizations step into this new realm of innovation.

Overall, MEDITECH did a fantastic job as always and were great hosts. Engage is inspired to work with your hospital to create a story for you to share next year.
